Basic Building Guide and Tips 2

Xappan's was far too long, had too many words and only told you how to use tools so this guide will show you how to build defenses and which are most effective. Also sorry for the gyazos, forums wont let me upload any of my edited screenshots. You don't have to read the text if you don't want to here, the pictures show enough.

OVERVIEW

So to start, there are really 2 different types of defenses you can build; shooting windows or peak spots. Peak spots can also be diverted into 2 subgroups; either the sideways peek (1) or the forward/backward peek (2). Which one you tend to use can be either based on personal opinion, or where you are actually building your base. Shooting windows (3), for example, can be used in tighter, smaller buildings when compared to forward/backward peeking.

PEEK SPOT (SIDEWAYS)

This is a very simple and easy to make defense. Most effective when using a pump shotgun or high-damaging revolver. To make: place a prop with a slight gap on either the right or left side so you can clearly see and shoot raiders. To use: simply move quickly sideways into view, shoot, and move back.

PEEK SPOT (FORWARD/BACKWARD)

A simple defense, but only applicable in certain buildings with higher ceilings. Most effective when using a pump shotgun or SMG. To make: place a floor that brings you roughly level with the top of the raider or higher, depending on how far back you are making the defense. Then, place a 1-way see through prop which, when up close allows you to clearly see and shoot the raider but when back makes you invisible. To use: simply move quickly forward into view, shoot, and move back

SHOOTING WINDOW

The most simplistic defense. Most effective with spray weapons such as LMGs, but equally effective with most other weapons. To make: place 1 lower prop and use the stacker tool to place another up around 14.5 units, creating a gap which you should fill with a 1-way see through prop and create a fading door and place a button to activate it. You may also want to put a fence in front of the shooting window to stop CPs from being able to battering ram your shooting windows open (see below). To use: press your button which opens the shooting window for 4 seconds and shoot for as long as you can. If you start getting shot at, move out of view until the shooting window closes again after 4 seconds, and maybe attack from elsewhere

APPLICATION TO A BASE

As previously stated, what defenses you use depend on where you are basing. I made a quick example here of a easy to make and defend base in one of the small houses by the beach. It is simple in design, containing 2 shooting windows and 1 peek spot, but do not be put off by how simple it looks. With the right weaponry and skill set, this base will be deadly to all but some. Feel free to copy the design if you like.

In bigger buildings, however, you may find an application of all three techniques in one. The forward/backward peak spots are by far the most popular with big gangs as they allow for many people to defend at once, strengthening their defenses. Below shows an example of something I've built previously which takes all techniques and makes one really clean base design, and I've drawn around the different parts where the techniques have been used so you can see which technique is most predominantly used.
